Steve Cuden

A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Steve co-created, and co-wrote lyrics for, the acclaimed international stage hit, Jekyll & Hyde, The Musical which enjoyed a successful four year run at the Plymouth Theater on Broadway.  “Jekyll & Hyde” has been translated into more than twenty languages, and is currently being produced by theater companies throughout the U.S. and the world over.

Steve also co-conceived the musical, Rudolf, Affaire Mayerling, with Frank Wildhorn.  “Rudolf” has been produced on stages throughout Europe and Japan.

Steve directed and co-produced the indie cult hit horror-comedy feature, “Lucky,” which won the awards for Best Feature at The New York City Horror Film Festival, AKA Shriekfest in Los Angeles, and MicroCineFest in Baltimore. Steve was honored to receive the award for Best Director at the Nodance Film Festival in Park City.  For many years, Steve designed the lighting of numerous live stage productions, mainly in Los Angeles, working with a variety of outstanding directors, designers, and actors.  For a list of some of his theater lighting work and awards, please click on the Theatre Lighting Designs page.

In 2013, Steve published Beating Broadway: How to Create Stories for Musicals That Get Standing Ovations. In 2015, Steve published Beating Hollywood: Tips for Creating Unforgettable Screenplays. 

Steve is a co-executive producer of the TV series “The Power of Film.” He is a retired Assistant Professor of Screenwriting at Point Park University, where he proudly taught numerous talented students about how to tell unforgettable stories for the screen.

Steve is also the host of  “StoryBeat,” a lively podcast dedicated to  storytellers discussing their unique process in storytelling. By listening to how successful creators develop and bring their work to life, writers and artists of all kinds are able to find great inspiration.
